Here at Compass Orange Mound, every scholar is seen, known, and loved. Each scholar is supported in their learning and their development. We have a rigorous curriculum, experienced teachers, monthly community celebrations, exposure to new things, and a strong character program. In addition to our morning meeting each morning, scholars receive classroom guidance lessons from our school counselor every week.

Another pillar for our school is service learning and scholars are encouraged to give and serve others inside and outside of our school community. Scholars are invited to participate in quarterly incentive trips, educational experiences off campus, college tours per semester, and various activities throughout the school year. We partner with local organizations to bring the best experiences to our scholars, on and off campus.

Finally, scholars are encouraged to be brave and operate in excellence. Our founding year we focused on our rally cry which is to “Be Brave. Make History.” and moving forward our motto is “Learning and Serving In Excellence.” We as a staff believe in modeling the way for scholars and showing the opportunities that are available to them if they put forth their best effort and persevere.

Dear Compass Orange Mound Parent,

It is a pleasure and an honor to serve your scholars and to be apart of such a diverse, special family. Compass Orange Mound will be a school that will foster the core values of respect, wisdom, courage, and servant leadership. It is my desire for students to cultivate these values in order to positively impact their educational and personal growth.

Together, we will have high expectations in every arena. I see the families of Compass Orange Mound as partners in this work; encouraging, supporting, and enforcing the same academic and character practices from school to home. One of the most exciting elements of our school will be our motto: “Be Brave. Make History.” Being brave presents the attitude in which we approach our day to day activity. Taking risks and being brave reminds us that we began this work with Compass Community Schools because of our belief in the mission and vision as it is written. We believe in who are students are now and who they are going to be. They will be brave and will be change agents for our communities and nation. They have the potential to make history in a positive way over and over. We believe in their potential. We believe in our community. We want you to join us in being brave so we can all make history together. I promise that I will always “be brave” as the leader of this awesome school community. I believe that we have the right team to ensuring physical and emotional safety, raising the rigor & academic achievement for all scholars, putting mechanisms in place that allow us to function as a supportive community, and loving your children as if they were my own.

I want to thank you in advance for entrusting me with this responsibility. I am ready and excited about all of the beautiful triumphs awaiting us this year.

Sincerely,

Ashley Simmons, Proud Principal Compass Orange Mound

Our Team

Be Brave. Make History.

Our staff loves every scholar and we are committed to their growth and development. We believe parents are our partners and have an open door policy when it comes to our scholar’s education. We call our students “scholars” because we believe that every scholar “can” and “will” learn as well as have upstanding character. We have a small scholar population which allows every staff member to know every child. This allows every scholar to be seen, known and loved.

Academics

Passion for Teaching

Compass teachers know their content backwards and forwards and are passionate about preparing Memphis youth academically and in character for college and lifelong success. Our teachers enjoy and benefit from our intentionally small school settings, which will help them to develop trusting, positive relationships with their students and colleagues.

Service Learning

Agents Of Change

Service-learning projects provide students with opportunities to apply newly learned knowledge and skills in real-world contexts, further cementing their understanding and giving their academic learning relevant purposes. Service learning serves as the intersection of our academic excellence and values-based character education pillars—bringing content, concepts, and skills gleaned from both to life through hands-on, tangible experiences.
