"Rising Above, Soaring Together"
At Compass Orange Mound, every scholar is seen, known, and loved. Each scholar is supported in their learning and their development. We have a rigorous curriculum, experienced teachers, monthly community celebrations, exposure to new things, and a strong character program. In addition to our morning meeting, scholars receive classroom guidance lessons from our school counselor every week.
Another pillar of our school is service learning, and scholars are encouraged to give and serve others inside and outside of our school community. Scholars are invited to participate in quarterly incentive trips, educational experiences off campus, college tours per semester, and various activities throughout the school year. We partner with local organizations to bring the best experiences to our scholars, on and off campus.
Finally, scholars are encouraged to be brave and operate in excellence. In our founding year, we focused on our rally cry, “Be Brave. Make History.” Moving forward, our motto is “Learning and Serving In Excellence.” As a staff, we believe in modeling the way for scholars and showing them the opportunities available if they put forth their best effort and persevere.
Our Team
Be Brave. Make History.
Our staff loves every scholar and we are committed to their growth and development. We believe parents are our partners and have an open door policy when it comes to our scholar’s education. We call our students “scholars” because we believe that every scholar “can” and “will” learn as well as have upstanding character. We have a small scholar population which allows every staff member to know every child. This allows every scholar to be seen, known and loved.

Passion for Teaching
Compass teachers know their content backwards and forwards and are passionate about preparing Memphis youth academically and in character for college and lifelong success. Our teachers enjoy and benefit from our intentionally small school settings, which will help them to develop trusting, positive relationships with their students and colleagues.
Service Learning
Agents Of Change
Service-learning projects provide students with opportunities to apply newly learned knowledge and skills in real-world contexts, further cementing their understanding and giving their academic learning relevant purposes. Service learning serves as the intersection of our academic excellence and values-based character education pillars—bringing content, concepts, and skills gleaned from both to life through hands-on, tangible experiences.
