Masks Recommended, But Optional Update Effective March 28, 2022
March 7, 2022
Dear Compass parents,
It’s hard to believe we’re already approaching spring break – I know we’re all looking forward to a week of rest and recharging. After that, it’s back to work to finish this year strong!
Many of you are likely aware that Memphis-Shelby County Schools has lifted its indoor mask mandate, in alignment with guidance from the CDC and Shelby County Health Department (SCHD). Masks are now recommended but optional for their students and employees. Compass Community Schools will follow suit – beginning Monday, March 28, masks will be recommended but optional for our students, faculty, and staff. Our leadership team has chosen March 28 as the start date because it will allow us one week (March 21-25) of COVID testing post-spring break to mediate any spread of the virus before masking policies are lifted.
Know that our team still firmly believes that mask-wearing is one of the best ways to keep ourselves and others safe and healthy, so if your child feels comfortable wearing a mask in our school buildings, we encourage you to do so. However, if your child chooses to opt-out of wearing a mask, all you need to do is fill out this form. Please keep in mind that if there is a change in Shelby County Covid-19 rates or updated guidance from the CDC or SCHD,
Compass could return to a mask-required policy.
Even with a mask-recommended, but optional policy in place, we know that nothing is more important than keeping our Compass community safe and healthy. Know that we are continuing to highly encourage vaccinations, weekly testing at every Compass campus, social distancing measures, and hand washing. If you have any questions, please contact your school’s office.
Sincerely,
Kristi Baird
