End of Year Letter, 21-22 School Calendar & Summer Camp
Dear Compass Community,
First, I’d like to thank you for your support, patience and perseverance as we navigated the process of reentering into classrooms over the past few months. Our students’ school family and home family worked together, like we always do, to provide them with the best education possible, and we couldn’t be more proud of the outcome. We thank you for entrusting your child with us this year, and we look forward to continuing your student’s educational journey as we head into the next school year.
We have finalized our calendar for the 2021-2022 school year! Compass operates on an extended day and extended year calendar, so more days in school result in more learning. Our first day of school for students is July 21. All Compass schools and all grade levels will offer in-person instruction for all students Monday through Friday. The school day will begin at 8 am with elementary schools ending at 3:30 and the high school ending at 3:45. The impact and benefits of in-person learning cannot be overstated – academic and emotional learning is best accomplished in the classroom. Last year, due to COVID, Compass and other public charter schools were allowed to offer remote learning. The state is not allowing us to offer remote learning for the 2021-2022 school year, so all Compass students will be in person with safety measures in place.
Please know that your child’s safety and well-being remains our number one priority. Our campuses will continue to follow CDC, state and county recommended best practices in regards to social distancing, mask wearing, hygiene promotion and regular building disinfection.
While we all look forward to a relaxing summer, I want to encourage you to continue your child’s learning during the break! All students are assigned summer reading, and more information will be sent home at the end of the school year and posted on our website. We will offer additional summer programming for FREE for our students in the early elementary grades, where remote learning had the greatest impact. You can find information below about summer programming for elementary students. Schools have sent or will send home fliers with registration details. Space is limited, so if you are interested in your child attending our free summer programming and have not signed up, please contact your school office. Additionally, we will offer credit recovery and learning loss at Compass Midtown. The school will reach out if your child needs to attend. Compass’ goal is to continue providing students with the educational experience they deserve through an exciting and enriching summer experience.
